Enclosure No.1.

Extract from minutes of Executive Council dated

14th June, 1939.

5

The Governor in Council considered the

question of the rates of pay which should be provided

under section 12 of the Hong Kong Volunteer Ordinance,

1933, on mobilisation.

It was agreed that the Commandant, Hong Kong

Volunteer Defence Corps, should let it be known among

the Eurasian members of the Corps that after discussion

with the War Office there was no reason to believe

that it would be necessary to make any discriminati on

in rates of pay locally among the various classes of

members of the Corps on mobilisation.

The Commandant was also advised that it would

be as well to take the resignation now of any who

declined to accept this assurance as sufficient.

(The Commandant, Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps,

attended before Council in this matter).

(Sdg.) T. Megarry.

Clerk of Councils, 14th June,

1939.
